The Bottom Line
Whether it is the consolidation of hospitals and other health services or anti-competitive pricing behavior, healthcare costs in the U.S. are rising at a rate that far surpasses wage inflation.
But healthcare costs in the U.S. remain opaque, confusing, and relatively high. As Tom Sackville sums up nicely, “There is no reason why identical procedures and products should vary in price so much across countries: it illustrates the damaging effects of an inadequately regulated healthcare market."
